About Me

I'm a mom, a teacher, a student, a wife, and a scout leader. I am actually an education major currently working on my practicum in a 2nd grade classroom. I also home school my two children. I'm also a cub scout leader, a girl scout leader, and at church I'm the children's music leader. ;) I tend to stay a little busy. My state requires homeschoolers to keep a portfolio. I am going to use this blog as my portfolio.

Summer Activities

I have had my calendar pulled out and the internet up trying to find some things to do during the summer. I look for activities all year long but since most kids are out for the summer, I always find so many more activities going on during the summer months than while school is in session. :) Regal has a summer movie event where  movies only cost a dollar. Love it!! We go every year. The last couple of years it's been free so I'm a little bummed that inflation has hit us. As for people here in my area... check out the calendar at the library web site... probably will work in other areas too. Here they have family activities on Tues nights (puppet shows, crafts, sidewalk chalk...etc). Then on Wednesdays they have story time and in the afternoon they have a special guest for school aged children. On Thursdays they have something for highschoolers. It looks like tons of fun! I love the summer just b/c of all the wonderful activities that are going on. =o) What does your community have during the summer?

I need structure!!

Okay, I have discovered that I have to have structure. I know, most homeschoolers like to create their own curriculum and I can do that but it takes up to much time. I used to. Right now I am the Primary President (over 18 mo - 11 yo kids at church), stay-at-home mom of 2, full time college student, housekeeper, and I'm trying to homeschool. I just have no time to create my lessons so I have found a fabulous resource!!! It's a program called The Head of the Class. My kids love it and the best part -- it's completely free. The kids log on and it has all of their assignments for the day right there. They go to them and watch the video(s), play the games and print out the worksheets. So fabulous! I think we're going to do this until the fall when Collin will start K12 and I'll continue The Head of the Class with Ryanne. I signed Collin up for the preschool one and quickly realized that he's much farther ahead then that so I switched his to Kindergarten and signed Ryanne up for Pre-K. Much more suited for them that way. I love finding wonderful resources!! :)
